Problems with stale or displeasing scalp and hair odors when using hair extensions?  Using a hair dryer is harsh and can destroy the emollient natural properties of your hair and air drying isn't fast enough. So, you end up with odor-producing bacteria that forms in the dampness. There are several good natural solutions.

Witch hazel (Hamamelis virginia) is a natural hydrosol extracted (steam distilled) from the twigs and bark of the Witch Hazel tree and has been used as a skin toner for decades.  Spritzed (lightly or liberally-your choice) on those troublesome stinky areas under your weave is not only useful for scalp toning and stimulation, it will help eliminate bacteria, thereby reducing the odor. Add a few drops of your favorite essential (or two or three) and you create additional natural fragrance, subtle and pleasing.  You will do best to use the real hydrosol, not the pharmaceutical brands from the drug store, as they contain quite a bit of alcohol which is too drying.

Vinegar is another natural body care application, creates the ideal pH balance for skin and hair, and (because it also neutralize odor by eliminating the bacteria that creates it) can be used as a deodorant as well as for skin toning and balancing.  Samara Botane manufacturers a lovely Rose/Calendula body vinegar infused with rosebuds and calendula petals, combined with rose geranium hydrosol, witch hazel and scented with rose geranium and lemon peel essential oils. This all purpose body vinegar is great misted over the entire body after bath/shower and effective in eliminating the odor associated with hair weaves and extensions.

Essential Oils with anti-bacterial properties can be diluted with distilled water in a fine mister bottle and used in the same manner. The bonus here is that you can add lovely natural scent of your choosing.  Essential oils with anti-bacterial properties include:   Be sure to refer to the Be Safe and Smart suggestions and Recommended Dilutions Chart.
