The background on this page is Veronica officinalis, Speedwell. In 1690, V. officinalis was the subject of a 300-page treatise (Polchrestra Herba Veronica by Johananes Francus) and in the middle ages a popular healing herb in Europe under the name Herba Veronica majoris. It is regarded as obsolete by modern herbalists.
