These larger diffusers produce enough diffused essential oil to fill a moderate or large sized room.
Nebulizers utilize an aquarium air pump to produce a small stream of air that passes over the essential oil and picks up oil droplets by aspiration. The droplets then pass through a glass “nebulizer” chamber. The larger droplets condense out on the glass and return to the reservoir, while the smaller droplets pass on into the room. This is the most efficient form of diffusion, because the oils are not heated at all, and only the smallest droplets pass on into the room environment; the larger ones go back for another pass. A minor drawback of the “nebulizer” is that it can be noisy, but this is minor and it is certainly much less annoying than a refrigerator, which we have all gotten used to.
Even a nebulizer will leave some of the heavier molecules behind and eventually it will have to be cleaned. Clean the diffuser by partially filling the oil chamber with alcohol and running the diffuser for a while.
Precautions: Be careful to keep the diffusion stream out of your eyes, and don’t breathe it in directly unless under the care and advice of an aromatherapist or health professional.
We sell three Nebulizers at present:
This
room diffuser uses an air pump with attached nebulizer chamber.
It does not have a switch or timer, so you have to unplug it to turn
it off. The glass chamber holds about 5 ml of oil, which is
introduced through a side port with a cork to close it during
use. This unit is suitable for small-medium rooms up to 4-500
sq. ft.

Windrose Ultra jet by Time Laboratories is a new design that uses an adjustable air pump with a switch and diffuses directly out of an essential oil bottle (although you have to use their non-standard bottle–of course we sell replacements). The standard model has tubing between the pump and the nebulizer, an attractive base stand to hold the bottle of oil, and a special cap that screws onto the top of the bottle. A plastic tube extends down into the bottle to pick up the oil from the bottom. We’ve noticed that the nebulizer may become top heavy when the bottle is empty, so be careful with the tube so that it doesn’t tip over. Note: the 4 bottles of oil shown in the picture are not included.
The
Windrose Deluxe Ultra Jet comes in a attractive wooden box with foam
that holds the nebulizer and bottle and the air pump, as well as 4
bottles of diffuser synergies. There’s no risk of tipping
here. The wooden cover is hidden in the back, but slides closed
so you see only the box and the nebulizer.
