About the Plant

The species Amyris balsamifera is from the family Rutaceae and grows along the Gulf of Mexico and around the Caribbean. Common names include cuaba, cuaba blanca, cuaba de monte. It is considered a small bush or tree, with branches of inflorescence and calyx hispid; leaves opposite with 3-5 leaflets.
The oil is sometimes confused with or offered as sandalwood oil.
